It is shocking to know that Texas has one of highest suicide rates in United States.  It is heartbreaking to understand that our teens are at higher risk of committing suicide.

Parents we have to be vigilant about our children’s mental health. Keep the conversations open and encourage your kids to speak about their feelings. If they don’t speak to you, find someone who both of you trust that would be willing to step-in. We can’t let our kids fall victim to feeling unsupported.

We have to do our best not to minimize the stress our children are under. They notice everything, they overhear our conversations.Everything we think they don’t know or understand, they do. Imagine what it feels like to know that something major is going on that effects you, and no one is talking to you about it.

Talk to your kids.

Pay attention to them, their friends, their activities.

Be present physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Show them love and enough of the affection they are comfortable with.

Get them help if they need it.

Go to family counseling.
