So let’s talk about Hela. She’s been banished from Asgard until Odin’s death. She about 3,000 years old. She has been banished for all of Thor’s life about 1,000 years. Why? check out the next clip.
You heard it right. Because her ambition outgrew her father’s. He was happy with violently conquered 9 realms, but she desired more. She felt that Asgard should rule them all. Odin groomed her to be his executioner. He taught her everything he knew, and then, he banished her. Imprisoned her for 2,000 years and erased every trace of her. Wait, let’s walk that back, he covered up all traces of her. He didn’t take the time to remove her from Asgard’s history, he just simply built things on top of everything that she was apart of. He buried the bodies of Asgardian soldiers who died during his conquests with Hela under the palace, and then painted over it.
He was proud of what he had, but ashamed of how he got it. Hela said it not me. Hela was sent away from Asgard, the place that gave her strength for 2,000 years because of Odin’s shame. Imagine being taught to be one way. Trained, and groomed, to be one kind of person, and once the goal is accomplished, your teacher deems you useless. Not only did they tell you that you were no longer needed, but they kicked you out your home, put you i prison, likely in an entirely different realm/ universe, far from the home that keeps you strong and well. You can come back, but only when I am dead. And when you do, the “prophecy” says you must be destroyed.
Let’s first address how covering things up, won’t fix it, won’t change it, won’t make it go away. Have you ever had to cover up a tattoo? I have one right now that I need to cover, but I know I can’t just cover it with anything. I know that its going to need to be big enough, and dark enough to cover the existing one. But even when I cover it, there will always be this impression in my skin from the old tattoo because they are, well, permanent. Are you hiding something in the darkness? Are you covering up the scars with make up? Are you pretending that you are healed from your past? What wounds have you put band aids over, but never treated?
I’ve realized that I haven’t really taken the time to deal with my own family dynamic and how much the past continues to impact how we all interact with each other. The first thing I have to accept is that, even if they choose not to deal with it, I must deal with it for myself. My growth is stifled by pretending everything is ok. My growth hinges on breaking the cycles that have held me back. My children’s future depends on me addressing the issues that have plagued myself and my siblings for decades. For the sake of not writing 10,000 words right now, I won’t go into detail, but the concept of generational curses isn’t just about teen pregnancy and poverty. Some of us have never known what unconditional love feels like because our parents didn’t know what it felt like. Some of aren’t poor, in fact, we are pretty well off, but we are hung up in material things and the image we portray because we were taught that was all that mattered. Some of us are empty because we were never taught how to fill ourselves spiritually. What are you hiding? What did you cover up? What do you need to address?
Hela was Odin’s curse, the prophecy of the King of Asgard. Upon Hela’s return she would come to Asgard, to try to conquer the remaining realms, only to be stopped by Surtur. Though Thor initially thought his job was to stop it, he comes to kn.ow that he MUST cause it in order to save the people of Asgard (it isn’t a place, it’s a people). So Hela was a means to an end for Odin, but she was never the child Odin intended to replace him as king. Just look a how all of this worked out for her. There was no way she would end up as Queen because 1. She is the Goddess of Death, that’s pretty bad 2. She might have just died in banishment considering she drew her strength from a place she hadn’t been in 2,000 years. (Thanks Loki!) 3. If she ever made if back, she would surely be killed as the prophecy (Ragnarok) was fulfilled. What are you striving to be that you just aren’t meant t be? Who are you aiming to please that you just can’t? Who are you allowing to groom you for their purpose? Do you know the plan once they have what they need from you? Be mindful of you purpose in the lives of others. Are they aligned? Will they give you the credit or paint your name out of the history books?
Poor Hela. Odin’s first-born, his executioner, his worst shame. He created her to be exactly who he needed her to be, Goddess of death. Once he was satisfied, she was dismissed and cut off from her life source. How are you allowing yourself to be used? Are you Hela for someone?
